"There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America."
~ Bill Clinton

"And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
~ John F. Kennedy, Inaugural address, January 20, 1961

Purpose of Club: To promote interest in history and to encourage young people to be civic minded.

Dues: $2 - This makes you a History Club member, but you  must be active to go on any trips.

Activities: Our activities are varied depending on the interests of the club members. Members can choose to participate in all activities or just a few. Active members will take a trip during April or May during which they can celebrate their year-long commitment to the history club, and during which they can learn even more about history.

Requirements: To go on the history club trip, students must have paid their $2 and have done one of the following:

  •  Attend the reenactment of the Battle of Cabin Creek, take pictures (at least 1 picture must show you there), and discuss the reenactment with the history club. Date: Early Fall.
  •  Participate in mock trial competitions. This is something new that VHS will be doing this year. This may be done in conjunction with the new Sociology-criminology class. There is a workshop day in November that Mrs.Culp plans to attend to learn more about this. Date: Late Fall and then throughout the rest of the school year.
  • Participate in the District History Day Competition. Mrs. Culp has the details and will help her American History classes with this project in class. Date: Work on projects needs to be done in Jan/Feb/March. District competition is March 30.
  • Participate in the Oklahoma Heritage Week Competition. This requires you to write an essay or create a poster about the selected topic. Date: October.
  • Participate in the JFK Profiles in Courage. You can win up to $6,500. You can submit your essay online.
